Fresh + Modest Pastel Beauty

While looking through my model page on my website recently, I noticed how natural and monochromatic that page is compared to my other work. I looove color and want that to be a foundation of all my imagery, including my beauty photography, so I planned a portfolio shoot with an amazing team to fill in some gaps! Portfolio shoots are so fun because I have full creative control and get to collaborate with a close team to create something all of us are excited about.

This shoot started with the idea of complimentary color schemes, and finding a new way to do that. I recently found a model local to me, Salma, who is a modest model. I was instantly drawn to her work and came up with the idea to plan a shoot celebrating her hijab. It’s important to me to fill my portfolio with diverse models, and that includes religious diversity. She was really excited about this idea of an editorial beauty shoot in her hijab, and so we got to work!

In planning the wardrobe and makeup looks, I found there were not many beauty photoshoot ideas I could find for working with models in hijab. That was both disappointing and fueling to me; I’m sad this hasn’t been fully explored yet but it was exciting to feel like we were creating something NEW and fresh. The shoot went so well, and the images came out amazing. Keep scrolling to see a few of my favorites from this shoot!
